One cold room is rarely a boiler-sized problem

Heating and cooling for houses across Clark County — and a straight answer about whether a room needs a ductless head, better duct work, or nothing at all.

  • MeasuredAirflow at the register before anybody talks about equipment.
  • WrittenThe price and what it covers, before the work rather than after.
  • HonestWe say when the answer is a filter and a setting change.

What we do

The work, without the sales pitch

  • Furnace service and repairBurners, heat exchanger, flue, safeties, gas pressure and airflow — checked properly, written up afterwards.
  • Heat pumpsService, repair and replacement, including the backup heat settings that quietly run up a winter bill.
  • Ductless systemsSingle heads and multi-head systems for rooms, additions, shops and whole houses without ducts.
  • Air conditioningAdded to an existing furnace where the ducts will carry it, and honestly assessed where they will not.
  • Duct workSealing, repairs and airflow measurement, mostly in crawlspaces, mostly the reason a room does not work.
  • VentilationBath and kitchen extract that moves real air, and fresh-air routes in tighter newer houses.
Ductless

The room over the garage, and what to do about it

Bonus rooms, converted basements, additions, offices in a corner, shops that were never heated at all. The usual answer offered is a bigger system. The usual correct answer is either a ductless head or fixing the duct that was already there.

Three questions on the check tell you which of the two you are probably looking at, and what it would involve.

Questions

Before you call

One room is always cold. Do I need a ductless head?

Sometimes. If there is a vent in the room and very little air comes out of it, the duct run is the more likely problem and usually the cheaper fix. The ductless check walks through which of the two you are in.

How much does a ductless system cost?

It depends on how many heads, where they go and how the condensate and line sets run. We quote in writing after seeing the space, and we do not publish a figure that would only be wrong.

Is a ductless head noisy?

The indoor head is quiet in normal operation. The filters need rinsing regularly — a neglected head loses capacity and gets louder, and that is maintenance rather than a fault.

Do you work on commercial premises?

Yes. Shops, studios, offices, workshops and small warehousing, with planned service and a written record per unit.

Will you tell me to do nothing?

Often. A filter, an open damper or a schedule change fixes a good share of the calls we take, and we would rather say so than sell a system.

Which areas do you cover?

Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Salmon Creek and Orchards.
